Alison Brie reveals she had a ‘peeing incident’ while in full 1960s costume on Mad Men.

Alison Brie’s Mad Men wardrobe lead to a very awkward urination situation during a shoot one her first season of the retro drama.

The GLOW star, 38, explained how her complicated 1960s-era costume resulted in a truly mortifying experience while appearing on the latest episode of Justin Long’s Life Is Short podcast on Tuesday.

Alison admitted she had a ‘peeing incident’ while working on the AMC hit after Justin had her recall a story Brie once told co-star Betty Galpin.

It turns out her undergarments – a period-perfect girdle which she described as ‘biker shorts that go all the way up to your ribs’ with a ‘small hole’ in them for intimate business – were her ultimate enemy on set.

‘I didn’t know for the first season that you weren’t supposed to wear underwear under them because they are underwear,’ Brie said, adding ‘But I was just trying to respect the wardrobe and that feels gross.’

Things went awry when the actress – who was a Hollywood rookie at the time – rushed to the bathroom before a scene.

‘[I] tried to pull the hole open, but I didn’t pull my underwear to the side so I’m peeing and not hearing it hit the bowl and then I just feel warmth.’

‘It was full pee,’ she went on, bluntly admitting she’d emptied about ‘half’ her bladder before realizing what was going on.

Terrified she was already holding up production from her ‘five minute’ bathroom break, Alison said she went ‘straight to set’ and got into action.

‘I just dabbed it with a bunch of toilet paper,’ she said. ‘Because they’re waiting on me! I’m not allowed to be that person here… I’m a recurring guest star, I don’t want to lose my job.’

Dedicated to her craft, Alison said she did ‘several takes’ before the costume designer Janie Bryant saved the day.

After Bryant sensed something was wrong with the star, Alison confessed.

But the costume pro – who’s also worked on Deadwood, The Romanoffs and It – took everything in stride, telling the Community talent ‘Wouldn’t be the first time!’

Following her slapstick story, Brie touched on her new film, the dark revenge comedy Promising Young Woman starring Carey Mulligan.

‘It is a movie about accountability, as society’ she said. ‘I don’t think Carey’s character, who is on this revenge mission, really just wants people to take responsibility and acknowledge what was happening.’
